ASALH Atlanta (September 2025)

The Association for the Study of African-American Life and History took an extraordinary leadership position in 2025 because the attack against Black history in the United States attempted to destroy the profession. Professors Kaye Whitehead and Zebulon Miletsky managed a powerful campaign to rally the nation and the world to defend the work and legacy of Carter G. Woodson. The staff and volunteers, led by Executive Director Sylvia Cyrus, poured countless hours of energy and effort into making the ASALH Atlanta conference successful. It was my honor to participate as an external volunteer to recruit staff and to expand national and international promotions for the conference.

ASALH Atlanta was a very strong event. The Afrofuturist Design elements were a signature for the conference and might be a good foundation for a future Black History Bulletin. More timely engagement with graphic history could also be a future path to bring larger audiences to the conference. ASALH is the leader for the future of freedom and knowledge. It is an extraordinary honor to be a part of this community.
