White Flight and Suburbanization (29 June 2025)

White Flight and Suburbanization by A.G. Worthington, Macalester College (2024)

The rise of American cities accelerated due to industrial and manufacturing growth in the first half of the twentieth century. Residential suburbs did not become the global symbols of prosperity until millions of white families used government subsidies to abandon the cities and to reject any possibility of racial integration.

In this project, A.G. Worthington examines patterns within the national phenomenon of urban sprawl, exposing ongoing barriers to equal opportunity in the United States.
